Volkswagen has revealed the Up! GTI concept car at this year’s GTI Meet at Lake Wörthersee.
The most powerful Up! ever, and similar in size to the original GTI, the micro hot hatch is driven by a turbocharged 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine with 147 lb-ft of torque. Weighing 997 kg, Volkswagen claims the car does 0-62 mph in 8.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 122 mph.
Visually-speaking, the car comes finished with typical GTI insignia. At the front, for instance, there’s a red stripe running across the honeycomb radiator grille, complete with a GTI logo integrated above it. There’s also a red strip at the rear as well as a larger roof edge spoiler.
Looking from the sides, the 17-inch alloy wheels have been completely redesigned, while the car has also been lowered by 15 mm.
On the inside, the interior includes features a leather-trimmed sport steering wheel, a GTI gear knob and the famous”clark” seat pattern.
Volkswagen says the production version of the Up! GTI will be launched into the market early next year.
