Vauxhall is set to premier the top-of-the-range ADAM S at next month’s Paris motor show.
First previewed at this year’s Geneva motor show, the S edition features a custom bodykit on the outside and a 1.4-litre turbo powertrain under the bonnet. It also gets a specially-tuned chassis and a VXR braking system.
With 148 bhp and 162 lb ft of torque, the new version of the 1.4-litre Turbo ECOTEC unit in the S delivers a specific power output exceeding 99 bhp/litre. It is a turbocharged unit derived from the ADAM’s existing four-cylinder, 1.4-litre engine, that has been specifically developed for the S.
Vauxhall claims it delivers 50 per cent more power and 70 per cent more torque than its naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre stable-mate. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, it propels the S from 0-62 mph in a claimed 8.5 seconds and to a top speed of 124 mph.
The engine is fitted with start/stop technology and also meets Euro 6 emission standards. Weight-saving features include a cast iron block with a hollow frame structure, hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold. According to official Vauxhall figures, the S achieves 44.1 mpg combined and emits 149 g/km CO2.
