Subaru has unveiled the “VIZIV Performance Concept” at the Tokyo motor show. Packaged in the first saloon body of the VIZIV design study series, the concept draws on famous cars from the Japanese brand’s motorsport history, most notably the Impreza and WRX models.
Based on the manufacturer’s so-called “Dynamic × Solid” design philosophy, and measuring 4,630 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,430 mm tall, the car also gets a symmetrical AWD layout as well as a Boxer engine.
Key design details include a three-dimensional form for the front grill that is then flanked by “hawkeye” headlights; hexagonal-shaped wheel arches; carbon-fibre elements in the fenders, bumpers and roof; and exposed exhausts sitting on either side of the rear bumper.
Subaru further says the car features “advanced” driver-assist technologies that are scheduled for launch around 2020.
The company has previously used the moniker VIZIV – said to be a coined word originating from the phrase “Vision for Innovation” – for a number of concept cars, all of which have so far been SUV-types, for example, last year’s “VIZIV-7 SUV” show car that was unveiled at the LA Auto Show.
Being a departure, the new VIZIV Performance Concept therefore most likely previews the next-generation WRX.
