Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Concept GLC Coupé at the opening of this year’s Shanghai motor show.
Said to be in a near-production-standard, the design study aims to carry the GLE Coupé formula over into a more compact segment. The concept most likely points to a new rival to the BMW X4. It also hints at how the standard GLC will look when it debuts in June.
“The Concept GLC Coupé gives a foretaste of future SUV models from Mercedes-Benz. At the same time, it embraces the typical values of tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupés,” said Mercedes design boss, Gorden Wagener.
Design details include a twin-blade radiator grille, ‘powerdomes’ on the bonnet and a four-pipe exhaust system at the rear. Sitting on 21-inch tyres, SUV elements include front and rear underbody protection, increased ground clearance and side running boards.
Underneath, a V6 powerplant delivers 362 bhp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Familiar from AMG sports models, the direct-injection biturbo engine is teamed with a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.
