British car manufacturer Morgan has announced its all-electric, three-wheeler EV3 prototype will enter production in 2018.
The announcement comes on the back of a new technical partnership between the Worcestershire-based carmaker and Frazer-Nash Energy Systems – a British R&D firm that specialises in electric powertrains.
“Working with Frazer-Nash Energy Systems means that the EV3 will have greater performance with rapid charging technology, proven reliability, a lower centre of gravity and greater acceleration over and above what was previously expected,” Morgan said in statement released today.
The EV3 design study signalled the British marque’s first production entrance into the world of all-electric cars when it was first revealed in 2016, having followed in the footsteps of the Plus E concept from 2012.
However, as a result of the new tie-up with Frazer-Nash, the road-going version will get an all-new architecture, and will also be the first Morgan to utilise composite panels in its body construction.
Morgan further claims the EV3 will have a range of 120 miles and will offer the same driving experience as the petrol version.
Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2018 at the brand’s Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern Link.
