The ‘Future Toyota Adventure Concept’ has been revealed at the Los Angeles motor show, with the design experiment aimed at “outdoor enthusiasts” according to the Japanese manufacturer.
Finished in “Prospect Green” with “Fortress Grey” accents, the SUV features a pronounced, wide, black, front grille that is flanked with bright LED headlights, below which sit fog lights that can be taken out from their pods to be used as portable lights. Further down, there are twin hooks for vehicle recovery as well as skid plates to help protect the short front overhangs.
The designers say the vehicle was packaged around a long wheelbase and wide track to help emphasise its stance. Extra wide fender flares provide body shielding and sit above the 20-inch wheels and beefier all-terrain tyres.
Additional details include a ‘safari-style’ cargo roof rack system complete with LED marker lights at its front corners, as well as infrared cameras on the side mirrors that can record trail runs and, like the fog lights, can be removed and mounted off-vehicle. Also at the rear is a retractable bike rack.
Underneath, in terms of power, Toyota says the FT-AC (as it is known in short) has been imagined as a petrol-driven vehicle with an “advanced” torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system.
“FT-AC is perfect for those outdoor enthusiasts who want to dial up the adventure on their weekend getaways,” said group vice president and general manager of Toyota, Jack Hollis. “No matter the roads, the activities, or the people, FT-AC sparks authentic fun and conversation.”
