Ford is adding more standard features to the new Shelby GT350 Mustang, which will go on sale in the U.S. this June.
The designers say the new offerings are what customers have been asking for from what is claimed to be the most track-capable, race-ready Mustang ever built.
The standard track package will now include an aluminium tower-to-tower brace and a “high-downforce” decklid spoiler at the rear. Engine oil, transmission and differential coolers, and a MagneRide damping system, are also being made part of the standardised kit.
“Ford Performance is always listening to customer feedback,” said Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Performance. “At the end of last year we started offering a back seat option for Shelby GT350R due to customer demand. Now, we have adjusted the packages available to continue to provide more of what customers want.”
The 2017 Shelby GT350 also brings three new colours and the choice of either an electronics package with Ford’s SYNC 3 voice-activated navigation and nine-speaker audio system, or a ‘convenience package’ that, among other things, replaces manual Recaro seats with leather-trimmed power sport seats.
No details have yet been given regarding any changes to the Shelby GT350R’s high-revving flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-litre V8, which currently produces 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque – the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever.
