Bentley has today officially revealed its long-awaited Bentayga SUV. The British luxury carmaker is describing the new model as the “the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world”.
Designed at company headquarters in Crewe, England, the Bentayga retains pretty much all of Bentley’s traditional styling cues. From the four round LED headlamps and large matrix grille, to the “power line” and flared rear haunches, the Bentley DNA is apparent throughout. The car also gets a panoramic glass roof that makes up almost 60 per cent of the total roof surface.
Underneath is an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine. The 12-cylinder unit delivers 600 bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque, enabling the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 187 mph.
The new W12 also sees a 11.9% efficiency improvement compared to the existing powertrain. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Sitting on 20-inch wheels as standard, the SUV’s chassis setup also introduces the newly-developed “Bentley Dynamic Ride”, which is claimed to be the world’s first electric active roll control technology that utilises a 48V system.
On the inside, Bentley boasts the Bentayga’s interior is “the world’s finest automotive cabin”. As well as metal, wood and leather detailing, there are technical features such as electronic night vision and a head-up display.
The Bentayga will make its full public debut next week at the Frankfurt motor show. Customer deliveries are expected to commence in early 2016.
