Toyota has unveiled the all-new, fourth generation Yaris ahead of its launch during the second half of 2020.
Currently the Japanese brand’s best-selling model in Europe, the new version is described by Toyota as having “a powerful, taut design that is more compact and sportier” than before.
It sits lower and wider than any previous iteration, seeing a 40 mm reduction in overall height and an increase in width by 50 mm, with the latter claimed to have generated more space both in the front and rear.
Toyota’s designers have also reduced the Yaris’s overall length by 5 mm, while managing to increase its wheelbase by 50 mm.
As a result of being built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the new model also gets increased body rigidity (+30%), a lowered centre of gravity (-15 mm), and an improved driving position.
The latter two elements mean both the driver and passengers now sit lower inside the car.
The dashboard, meanwhile, has been developed around the concept of “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road”. Details include a central touchscreen, a TFT display in the instrument binnacle and a 10-inch colour head-up display.
In terms of performance, the 2020 model gets an all-new 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain that manages a 15 per cent increase in combined power and a more than 20 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.
In the UK, the new Yaris will also be available with 1.5 and 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines.
