Suzuki has unveiled two new concept cars at this year’s Geneva motor show. The first, dubbed ‘iK-2’, is a small B-segment hatchback slightly larger in size than the Swift, while the second, called ‘iM-4’, is a new mini SUV that is longer than the Jimny, but shorter than the new Vitara.
Both concepts are built on a new platform that aims to increase rigidity while reducing weight via a redesign of the underbody’s structure.
Styled around a theme of what Suzuki is calling “Liquid Flow”, the iK-2 is powered by a newly-developed 1.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine which is said to be both lighter and faster than any unit powering the current Swift.
The iM-4, meanwhile, gets a 4WD system, as well as high ground clearance and 18-inch alloys on the outside. Underneath, it is powered by a mild hybrid system called SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) that incorporates a 1.2-litre petrol engine, lithium-ion batteries and a start-stop system.
