SKODA Designers Create Winners’ Trophies for Tour de France
As in previous years, Czech carmaker ŠKODA has created the trophies for the winners of this year’s Tour de France.
The trophies were co-designed by ŠKODA designer Peter Olah (pictured above), and subsequently hand-made by Bohemian glassmiths from luxury Czech glassworks brand, Preciosa.
The design team says it has incorporated styling elements from ŠKODA’s cars in creating the 60-centimetre-tall, four-kilogram crystal trophies
To mark the first time ŠKODA has sponsored the green jersey (best sprinter), the winner’s trophy for the green jersey cyclist is also made from green glass for the first time.
Cycling forms a key component of ŠKODA’s current sponsorship strategy. Besides the Tour de France and the Tour of Spain, the car manufacturer supports a number of other international cycling races as well as numerous international and national mass cycling events.
ŠKODA’s founding fathers, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, started out by making bicycles some 120 years ago.
