As the new 308 hatchback goes on sale in the UK, Peugeot has expanded its medium-car range with a new silhouette. Like the hatchback, the new Peugeot 308 SW has been completely redesigned.
The SW model grows in length to 4.58m while maintaining the same wheelbase as the hatchback. The interior boot capacity of 610 litres is also greater than that of its rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf estate and Ford’s Focus estate. The rear seats can be folded flat with a single action from inside the boot.
Also like the hatchback, the estate variant utilises the ‘Efficient Modular Platform’ (EMP2), which means the 308 SW is 140kg lighter than its predecessor.
Produced in Sochaux, France, the 308 SW will be equipped with powertrain units from the Trémery and Douvrin sites. These will include a range of Euro 6 petrol and diesel engines, as well as a new BlueHDi version that emits 85g/km of CO2.
The car will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, and will go on sale across Europe in the Spring.
