New images and videos from the Frankfurt Motor Show, including an interview with Lamborghini design boss Mitja Borkert, have been added to the original story.
Lamborghini has revealed its first ever hybrid sportscar, which, at the same time, has become the Italian brand’s fastest and most powerful model ever.
Power comes by way of a V12 engine (uprated to 774 bhp) that is then mated to a hybrid system to deliver a total of 808 bhp, which helps the limited-edition “Sián” complete zero to 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of over 217 mph.
Engineers at Lamborghini claim the Sián’s weight-to-power ratio is also better than that of the Aventador SVJ, “achieved through extensive use of lightweight materials”.
“With this car, we set ourselves the challenge of creating the best hybrid solution for a Lamborghini super sports car to provide us with the first step on our electrification strategy,” says Maurizio Reggiani, the company’s chief technical officer.
From a design perspective, the Sián’s exterior is claimed to have taken its inspiration from the Countach, with a “Gandini line” said to be evident in its profile.
“The fastest Lamborghini must be a visual and symphonic feast, as remarkable to those who see it pass by as those privileged to drive it,” explains Lamborghini design boss, Mitja Borkert. “It takes inspiration from the Countach, but the Sián is a futuristic icon, not retrospective.”
Only 63 units will be made.
