Bentley has revealed the world’s fastest production SUV, thereby claiming a title that was, until just a few days ago, held by the Lamborghini Urus.
The new Bentayga Speed uses an uprated 626 bhp version of the regular model’s 6.0-litre W12 engine to deliver a top speed of 190 mph and a 0–62 mph time of 3.9 seconds.
And to match the elevated levels of performance, the Speed edition also gets a modified exterior look.
Sporting design cues include dark-tint headlights, radiator and bumper grilles; body-coloured side skirts; a tailgate spoiler; special Speed signature badging; and a unique 22-inch wheel design that comes in three finishes.
Behind the new 10-spoke alloys also sit ceramic brakes that are the largest and most powerful ever fitted to a Bentley, with a maximum braking toque of 4425 lb-ft and engineered to withstand temperatures up to 1,000 °C. They also save more than 20 kg over iron brakes.
Inside, the Speed features ‘swooshes’ around the door and door grab, on the edge of the seat cushions and backrest bolsters, and on the lower console; a new contrast stitching on the diamond quilting; custom Speed badging; a Speed illuminated treadplate signature; and the use of Alcantara materials for the first time in a Bentayga.
As with the standard Bentayga, the all-wheel-drive Speed comes equipped with an electronic differential lock and up to eight driving modes. Bentley engineers also claim revisions made to the Sport mode now provide for “a more dynamic drive”.
The new Bentayga Speed will make its global debut at next month’s Geneva motor show.
