McLaren F1 Designer Joins Electric Hypercar Company Dendrobium
UK-based hypercar startup Dendrobium has announced the appointment of Peter Stevens to its design team.
Stevens – known for having designed a number of British supercars, including the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJR-15 and Elan whilst chief designer at Lotus – has made an immediate mark with subtle styling tweaks to the Dendrobium D-1 electric hypercar, to create the new XP-2 variant (pictured above and below).
“My small changes to the D-1 to create the new XP-2 were inspired by improving airflow of the car, as well as visually enhancing the drama of this exceptional electric hypercar,” says Stevens, who has also previously completed styling work for the likes of Lamborghini, BMW, Toyota, MG, and Subaru.
With a target weight of 1,750 kg, the fully carbon-fibre D-1 XP-2, which was initially developed by Dendrobium and built by Williams Advanced Engineering, will “re-write the rules for the hypercar”, according to Nigel Gordon-Stewart, chairman and CEO of Dendrobium.
The company also fully intends to manufacture the D-1 in the UK, despite the current challenges and uncertainties continuing around Brexit.
