Lexus has announced the production of a new luxury boat based on the “Lexus Sport Yacht” concept that was unveiled in Miami at the start of last year.
The one-of-a-kind vessel was engineered by Toyota’s Marine Division and a single, working proof-of-concept was subsequently built in partnership with the Marquis-Larson Boat Group, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Senior Toyota executive Shigeki Tomoyama, speaking at the recent Japan International Boat Show, where the concept picked up a special award from Japan’s “Boat of the Year” committee, confirmed Lexus now intends to produce a premium yacht for sale worldwide.
“Based on our amazing experiences in engineering, building, testing and showing the Lexus Sport Yacht concept last year, we’ve decided to take the next bold step of producing an all-new larger yacht that builds on the advanced nature of the concept while adding more comfort and living space,” Tomoyama said. “We plan to start sales in the U.S. in the latter half of 2019, with sales in Japan following in the spring of 2020.”
The new, larger 65-foot sport fly-bridge cruiser will have “luxury staterooms below deck and entertaining space for up to 15 guests,” according to the Japanese manufacturer.
