Lamborghini has unveiled the Aventador S Roadster, which is set to launch at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
Powered by the same 730 bhp, V12 as the coupé Aventador S, the convertible accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds before reaching a top speed 217 mph. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed transmission that Lamborghini claims provides robotised gearshifts in up to 50 milliseconds.
From a design perspective, the car’s rear sports different lines to the coupé, with an engine bridge running from the back window to the rear in a mix of body colour and matt black painted carbon-fibre engine bonnet blades, while removable, hardtop roof panels, weighing less than six kg, are convexly moulded to give extra cabin space for the occupants. The roadster weighs just 50 kg more than the coupé.
The drop-top retains the coupé’s active rear wing, which improves front downforce by more than 130% over the previous Aventador. With the wing in optimum position Lamborghini engineers say the roadster achieves over 50% overall efficiency at high downforce and in low drag more than 400%.
First customers deliveries of the new car are expected in February 2018.
