Lamborghini has revealed the Aventador SVJ Roadster just a few days after unveiling the Huracán EVO Spyder – and both convertibles will be making their global public debut at this week’s Geneva motor show.
The open top version of the Aventador SVJ coupé delivers 531 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm, which in turn helps deliver a 0-62 mph of just 2.9 seconds and a 0-124 mph time of 8.8 seconds. A top speed of “more than” 217 mph is also complemented by a braking distance of 62 mph to 0 in 31 metres.
Such performance figures are virtually indistinguishable from those of the hard top, which at the time of its reveal last summer represented the Italian brand’s most powerful production V12 ever; indeed, it even went on to take the Nürburgring-Nordschleife production car record lap-time.
The roadster’s roof, meanwhile, constructed from carbon-fibre, is removable via quick-release levers in the cabin, and is securely stored under the front hood. Weighing less than 6 kg each part, the convertible is claimed to add only 50 kg to the SVJ coupé’s weight of 1,525 kg.
Lamborghini’s designers also say airflow over the roof is uninterrupted whether it is on or off, and the overall result is a claimed improvement by 40% of the total downforce compared to the Aventador SV Roadster version.
“The Aventador SVJ Roadster inherits all the power, performance and ground breaking aerodynamic technologies of the coupé, but with its own iconic presence and prowess,” says Lamborghini boss, Stefano Domenicali. “With the same extraordinary performance roof on or off, the Aventador SVJ Roadster incorporates the dynamism of the coupé with the unique spirit of a Lamborghini roadster.”
Just 800 units will be produced of the Aventador SVJ Roadster, with first deliveries expected this summer.
