Lada Launches New Car Design Contest
Lada, in conjunction with Russian social networking site VKontakte, has announced details of a new car design competition. Potential entrants are being asked to come up with compelling new design concepts for Lada’s future production models.
Lada, which is owned by Russian carmaker AvtoVaz, launched a new concept car of its own last year. The XRAY crossover was designed by British car designer Steve Mattin, who had formerly completed stints at both Mercedes-Benz and Volvo before moving to Lada.

Now, however, the brand is seeking ideas from further afield — and specifically via VKontakte, which is considered to be far more popular in Russia than Facebook, with around 200 million registered users.
The latest contest features two specific categories: (1) ‘Tuning’, which calls for redesigns of existing Lada models; and (2) ‘Freestyle’, which challenges designers to envision completely new models.
The sole proviso is that all prospective designs must carry the brand’s logo on the front grille. Entries will be judged by VKontakte members, with designs gaining the most comments and likes progressing forward onto the second round, where they will be subsequently judged by Lada’s official in-house car designers.
Would-be participants have until the end of 2013 to submit their designs online. Additional details are available on the contest website (in Russian only).
