VIDEO: Jaguar’s Ian Callum Talks F-Type Design Inspiration
The F-TYPE recently won the 2013 World Car Design of the Year award. The car is certainly one of the most exciting that Jaguar has produced in quite a while.
Ian Callum, current Jaguar design director, recently appeared on an episode of MotorTrend’s Wide Open Throttle web show, wherein he talked about what inspired the car’s design.
The completely new roadster, arguably Jaguar’s first pure bred sports car in decades, pays homage to the spirit of the E-Type of the ’60s and ’70s and features a range of powertrain options; from a 340-hp 3.0L supercharged V-6 to a 5.0L supercharged V-8 making nearly 500 horsepower.
Ian was joined on the show by Angus MacKenzie, Ed Loh, Kim Reynolds and Jonny Lieberman. The crew also discussed the challenges of balancing engineering with design, and the safety regulations and legal limitations that need to be factored into designing a car.
