Hyundai, working together with aftermarket tuning specialists EGR Group and Bisimoto, has previewed the designs of two different concept cars that will make their global public debut at this year’s SEMA show.
Set to be unveiled next month in November (5-8), when the 2013 SEMA Show officially opens its doors in the US city of Las Vegas, the cars represent customised versions of Hyundai’s regular Veloster Turbo and Genesis Coupe models.
“Yellowcake” Night Racer Veloster Turbo
Aftermarket accessory supplier EGR Group has developed a custom EGR Night Racer concept that has been designed specifically for time attack races at night racing circuits.
The EGR Night Racer’s most noticeable cosmetic upgrade is a vivid yellow paint scheme. This custom-developed colour, dubbed Yellowcake, was created by EGR in collaboration with the paint technicians at PPG and Barry’s Speed Shop. The addition of a Wurton roof-mounted LED light bar and custom ONEighty-branded headlights will enable greater visibility and presence on night racing circuits.
Modifications go beyond cosmetics, however. Body rigidity has been increased with the addition of a custom roll cage, and ride height is race-tuned with an ARK coil-over suspension and AEM strut brace. Bisimoto Engineering provided powertrain tuning expertise, boosting the 1.6-litre output to 250 horsepower, while oversized Brembo brakes, DPE 3-piece racing wheels and Toyo semi-slick racing tires ensure the additional power is kept under control.
“Veloster Turbo provides an ideal tuning platform for enthusiasts who want to modify their cars,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “EGR created a very special night-focused time attack car that perfectly showcases Veloster Turbo’s inherently sporty DNA.”
Bisimoto Genesis Coupe Variant
The Bisimoto Genesis Coupe generates 1,000 horsepower from a turbocharged Hyundai-factory-based 3.8-litre V6 engine. The powertrain uses newly-designed internal parts, using the naturally-aspirated Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec engine as its core building block.
“The key to producing reliable, high-horsepower engines goes well beyond the design, engineering and fabrication of performance parts. The core powerplant must be strong enough to withstand advanced modifications. The Genesis Coupe 3.8-litre Lambda engine is a thoroughly robust powerplant, and Bisimoto Engineering is excited to develop it to its full potential for the rigors of competitive motorsport,” said Bisi Ezerioha, owner of Bisimoto Engineering.
Adding to the extensive work underhood, Bisimoto created a custom Electric Blue paint, Denmatic design graphics package, ARK hood and carbon fibre decklid. From the rear view, a Burns stainless exhaust and Bisimoto rear badge round out the visual impact.
