Ahead of the Geneva motor show, Alpine has today revealed the first images of its new two-seater sports car – the revived A110.
Almost identical to the 2016 Vision concept upon which it is based, the production-ready version features a full aluminium platform and upper body. In terms of power, it’s expected to get a modified version of the turbocharged 1.6-litre unit currently deployed in the Renault Clio RS.
Originally unveiled in 1962, the A110 remains Alpine’s most famous model. Back then it was essentially an update of the A108 that debuted in 1958, and which was the first to use the “Berlinette” body shape.
Both shared a similar steel backbone chassis to which a glassfibre body was attached, and both were mechanically derived from popular rear-engined family Renaults.
Around 7500 A110s were made during a 16-year career that saw examples manufactured in Spain, Mexico and Bulgaria as well as France, while the car’s motorsport achievements included netting the World Rally Championship in 1973 and several other victories besides.
Taking aim at the Porsche 718 Cayman, the all-new model is scheduled to go on sale next year.
