For the third year running, Ferrari has taken the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” award, with the J50, the strictly limited series of bespoke cars built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Japan, coming out on top in the Product Design category of the annual global design award.
A two-seater, mid-rear-engined roadster based on the 488 Spider that is claimed to hark back to the targa body style of several Ferrari road cars from the 1970s and 1980s, the J50 was styled by the Ferrari Design team under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, and only 10 examples of the car will be built.
“The Ferrari J50 fascinates with a style that brings a new, highly exciting combination of flowing and striking elements into play. It showcases a dynamic, compact and tight body design. At the same time, it also conveys a sensuous lightness that challenges the viewer with subtle yet strong lines. It has emerged as an impressive balance of strength and elegance. This Ferrari thus energetically points the way for the ultimate sports car,” said the jury.
