Citroen has today revealed a series of renderings showing a new concept car it plans to debut next week in Geneva under its DS sub-brand.
Measuring 4.72 metres long and 1.29 metres high, the electric-powered DS E-TENSE supercar produces 381 lb-ft of torque and 402 bhp, while its fully electric overall range is claimed to be 193 miles. Zero to 62 mph is said to take 4.5 seconds.
The exterior styling is imbibed with certain design cues inherited from last year’s Divine DS concept, with features such as the 3D-printed front radiator grille having been developed using parametric design. Other design references go further back in time. Minus a windscreen at the rear, for example, the indicators integrated into the roof are said to have been inspired by the original DS from 1955.
Beneath the two-seater’s exterior skin is a monocoque chassis manufactured from carbon-fibre that is equipped with independent superimposed double wishbone suspension.
For the passenger cabin, Citroen claims DS upholsterers took 800 hours to design, test and produce the interior, with particular emphasis on a “watchstrap” style design for the seats and dashboard. Yet to be revealed, the interior is set to feature cold steel used for the dashboard and a strongly marked tulip-shaped steering wheel.
Citroen has also revealed that its interior designers have collaborated with French luxury brands Moynat, BRM Chronographers and Focal, to create a bespoke helmet harness, a timepiece that can be worn on the driver’s wrist or affixed to the car’s central console, and a nine-unit loudspeaker system, respectively.
