The new E-TENSE concept car, unveiled this week at the Geneva motor show, points towards DS’s future with its high-performance electric powertrain. The Citroën sub-brand says its future ambition is to create an all-electric GT car.
With the silhouette of a grand tourer coupé emphasised by a central chrome-plated spine and a metallic green body colour, the latest design study follows on from the Divine DS concept car that was unveiled at the Paris motor show back in 2014.
Measuring 4.72 metres long and 1.29 metres high, the concept produces 402 bhp and 381 lb-ft of torque thanks to the lithium-ion batteries situated under the monocoque carbon-fibre chassis, which is also equipped with independent superimposed double wishbone suspension.
The addition of a large carbon-fibre diffuser at the rear and a flat underbody also contribute to its aerodynamic performance.
On the inside there’s a ‘watchstrap’ style design on the seats and dashboard. Other key features include digital instrumentation, with a 12-inch digital handset coupled to a 10-inch touchscreen.
The cabin also incorporates a number of bespoke elements designed in collaboration with French luxury brands Moynat, BRM Chronographers and Focal.
