Chinese start-up Byton has this week revealed a near-production prototype of its first ever model – the M-Byte electric SUV.
Shown at the Frankfurt motor show, the car is set to launch in China during the first half of 2020, and thereafter in both North America and Europe by 2021.
The M-Byte will come in two guises in terms of power: An entry level 72 kWh model; and a ‘premium’ 95 kWh 4WD version.
While the former is claimed to deliver 268 bhp and a range of 224 miles, the latter is rated at 402 bhp and is promised to deliver a range of 270 miles. And by using a 150 kW charger, 80% battery capacity can be achieved on both models in 35 minutes.
The car’s most distinguishable design feature, meanwhile, is to be found on the inside: Integrated into the dashboard is a 48-inch-wide curved display, which at present holds the record for being the world’s largest display in any production vehicle.
Users can interact with the display using a 7-inch tablet located at the centre of the steering wheel and also via an 8-inch “co-driver” tablet that sits in between the front seats.
The expansive dash was a key element of the original M-Byte concept car that was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas at the start of 2018.
