BMW Motorrad has revealed the “Concept 9cento” design study at the 2018 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.
Described as a “smart all-rounder”, the concept bike is designed for the ‘adventure sport’ category – a category the German manufacturer is all too familiar with thanks to the BMW S 1000 XR, which is considered a top player in that particular segment of the motorcycle market.
More than likely, the 9cento, which is pronounced “nove cento” and means “nine hundred” in Italian, previews a future middleweight production model that will aim to target the likes of the Multistrada 950 and Yamaha Tracer.
“The BMW Motorrad Concept 9cento is our interpretation of a modern all-rounder for the new mid-range segment,” says BMW Motorrad design boss, Edgar Heinrich. “Functional properties such as touring capability, storage space and wind/weather protection are relevant to most motorcyclists but they’re rarely included in the design of a concept vehicle.”
As such, the design study gets a windshield and fairing for wind and weather protection, as well as a storage space concept comprising a clip-on case element.
The latter not only offers storage space, but also extends the seating area for the passenger; it is hooked into the rear carrier from above if and when needed, with an electromagnet that attaches the element securely to the lower section of the rear carrier.
Hmm is anyone else experiencing problems with the images on this blog loading? I’m trying to determine if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
