Pininfarina has revealed its all-electric Battista hypercar, with the famous car design studio claiming the model will be the most powerful Italian performance vehicle ever – faster even than a current Formula 1 race car!
When it arrives in 2020 – the year Pininfarina marks its 90th anniversary – it will deliver a 0-62 mph time of less than two seconds, as well as 1900 bhp and 1696 lb-ft of torque. A range of 280 miles is also being promised.
Additional details include a carbon-fibre body and chassis; the latter incorporating double wishbone coil over suspension and 21-inch wheels that come wrapped in bespoke Pirelli tyres.
No more than 150 Battistas will be hand-built in Italy, and the car is further expected to serve as the halo model for a range of luxury electric cars that the Mahindra-owned brand currently has in its development pipeline.
“It combines true inspiration and innovation in its technical achievement and emotional appeal. Electrification unlocks the door to a new level of performance and a zero-emissions future, whilst a passion and respect for automotive history will define how this landmark car looks and feels. We aim for Battista to be a future classic,” says Pininfarina CEO, Michael Perschke.
“We wanted Battista to be very Italian, with sensual curves to give back a feeling of the cars of the ’60s and the moment in time when sensual design in cars was to the fore and when Pininfarina really became iconic. The body form speaks this Italian language,” adds Pininfarina’s design director, Luca Borgogno.
