MV Agusta has revealed the 2021 model year Superveloce, with the retro-styled sportsbike getting a number of tech updates as well as a new “S” badge variant.
The Italian brand says its engineers have tried to improve on every aspect of the bike for 2021, including making changes to the chassis, engine, gearbox, and electronics.
For example, an upgraded chassis architecture incorporates redesigned frame plates that reportedly increase torsional and longitudinal stiffness, while the Euro 5-compliant, 145 bhp three-cylinder engine gets new tappets and titanium valve guides.
The exhaust system has also been completely redesigned, from the manifold to the silencer, for what is claimed to be better control with more torque and power curves at different engine speeds. The injectors are new as well, capable of handling an additional 0.5 bar of injection pressure. The ECU firmware was also updated, as were the management logic and engine control algorithms, allowing improved throttle management. The new twin-flow oil radiator boosts cooling efficiency by more than 5%.
The clutch has been revised too, principally in the form of a more robust clutch basket that is claimed to make the bike more manageable and quieter.
From the Continental-derived ABS to the controls and ECU firmware, the electronics on the new Superveloce have arguably seen the biggest change, owing in part to the inclusion of an IMU for the first time, which has been developed specifically for MV Agusta by Milan-based e-Novia.
The IMU also enables the revamped front lift control to execute what MV says is “a controlled wheelie instead of preventing it entirely”. Launch Control offers further assistance, intervening on both engine speed and torque.
The handlebar controls have also been given a new joystick to navigate the equally new 5.5″ TFT dash.
The new Superveloce S, meanwhile, wears a special white livery as well as lighter wheels with a cross-spoked design. Additional styling details include a brown Alcantara seat, while an optional racing kit adds a single-seat tail fairing complete with brown Alcantara pad and an Arrow triple-exit exhaust.
