Genesis has revealed its updated G90 flagship luxury saloon, with the 2020 year model getting new-car-level design changes both on the exterior and interior.
From front to back, the styling of the 2020 G90 evolves the brand’s so-called “Athletic Elegance” design language. In front, the signature “Crest Grille” is significantly enlarged as well as being flanked by quad lamps.
Quad lamps feature at the rear too, wrapping around from corner to corner, while the license plate has been placed as low as possible in order to accentuate “a low and wide stance”.
In all, with the exception of the roof and doors, every exterior body panel on the 2020 G90 has been replaced or changed.
“G90 is the ultimate expression of the Genesis brand,” says Luc Donckerwolke, executive vice president and chief design officer at Genesis’ parent company, Hyundai. “Before the first sketch was even drawn, my team of designers thought carefully about how to evolve its styling and create something even more elegant and harmonic.”
The interior design, meanwhile, has been developed around a concept of “Horizontal Architecture”, and as such, the cabin is dominated by horizontal surfaces including a parallel layout that includes the air ventilation system, and audio controls that are claimed to provide a more intuitive user experience than before.
The 2020 G90’s cabin also introduces multiple technology firsts for the Genesis brand. For example, it is the first Genesis car to offer over-the-air wireless updates for maps and software, while its 12.3-inch display navigation system now incorporates touchscreen controls and a copper graphic user interface.
For safety, there are also 10 standard airbags, including a passenger-side knee airbag.
Underneath, the car will be powered either by a 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 or a 5.0-litre V8 when it goes on sale next month in the USA.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class rival is expected to go on sale this side of the Atlantic too, as the South Korean brand has plans to launch a product offensive both in Europe and the UK in 2020.
